About School Site Council (SSC)
The Washington School Site Council is composed of the principal; teachers selected by the teachers at the school; other school personnel selected amongst other school personnel; and parents of students attending the school and/or community members selected by parents at the school. The Washington SSC welcomes input and ideas from the entire Washington School Community.

What does SSC do?
Pursuant to California Education Code (EC) Section 52855 and EC 64001, the SSC is to develop, annually review and update the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPCA). This plan is recommended to the local governing board for approval. More specifically, the SSC will:
  1. Develop goals, monitor implementation and evaluate the effectiveness of Washington's Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPCA).
  2. Review overall student performance and revise the SPSA as necessary throughout the school year.
The SPSA is a plan of actions. These actions consist of academic achievement goals as well as non-academic goals. The purpose of the SPSA is to raise the performance of all students. The Washington SSC is committed to always asking thoughtful and challenging questions regarding our diverse student community.

SSC members have an obligation to make decisions that will best serve the whole school community. The Washington SSC is charged with finding ways to close gaps in achievement between groups of students.

How to Get Involved

If you are interested in school policy, you might enjoy serving on the SSC in the future. To find out more about what SSC does, come attend a meeting, talk to the school principal or one of the members of our SSC. The Washington SSC meets monthly, typically on the third Wednesday of the month at 3:15pm (please refer to the Washington School Calendar for exact dates). If you are interested in having an agenda item discussed at SSC, are interested in joining SSC as an official member, coming to a meeting or simply learning more about the council, please email our Principal, Cristin Coleman, at [email protected] .

FAQs
  1. Who are the members of Washington's SSC? Site Council typically maintains 10 members consisting of five school staff members (both Certificated and Classified staff) and five school community members/parents.
  2. Can I attend a SSC Meeting? Yes! The meetings are public and are typically on the 3rd Thursday of the month. If there are items that you would like to have discussed please send an email. Meeting agendas are posted on campus in advance of meetings.
What specifically does the SSC do? SSC works on the School Plan for Student Achievement, but more specifically, this could involve reviewing test scores (such as CAASPP data) and helping craft specific goals so that our children can be set up for success. We also review site safety plans and prepare specific guidelines for our site and families should there be an emergency. We also look holistically at the student site and focus on points that will set the children up for success.
